Museums and cultural institutions help us learn about our history and collective group think, but for large families, college students, and others without a lot of wiggle room in their budgets, a visit can sometimes be out of reach. Once each September, Smithsonian Magazine sponsors Museum Day. On this single, one-day event, thousands of museum and attractions across the the U.S. provide free general admission.

Saturday, September 21 is that day and several area museums will participate including The First Museum and The Parthenon in Nashville, Trousdale Place in Gallatin, Clement Railroad Hotel Museum in Dickson, Customs House Museum & Cultural Center in Clarksville, and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.

However, you will still need a ticket but getting one is easy. Just click here, search for the museum that interests you, and download and print a ticket. Each ticket provides free entry for two people and you can download one ticket per email address.

If you go, be sure to to take pics and tag the Museum Day folks (@MuseumDay, #MuseumDay) and us (@lynchburgtimes). •
